20th Anniversary Celebrations
Article from the
1st Issue of Points East
in January 1993

Page 1 of the very first issue of POINTS EAST in January 1993 reads:
“From John and Andrée East................Greetings
When researching the name EAST we soon found that there were many others doing the same thing. Instead of all working separately, might it not be a good idea to start an EAST Family History Group to coordinate our efforts?
We asked nearly 100 others for their opinions.
Result: The EAST Family History Group.
The inaugural meeting will be held on Saturday 20th March at the home of Bill East in Golders Green, London. The meeting starts
at 2.30pm. Please let us know if you can come. Meanwhile we offer this first newsletter to get you started.
That was 1993 & The East family History Society is still going !
So to recognise our 20th Anniversary.
It was decided that we should :
Celebrate the occasion with a Celebration Dinner to be held after the AGM
Re-establish contact with old members.
Write to 250 EAST’s drawn from telephone books throughout the UK
Arrange more advertising of the EAST FHS during this year.
Please see the next page for a report on the Celebratory Dinner.
Contact was made with lapsed members and with East's from the telephone directories.
The society took a stand at the Who do you think you are event.
A new Website was designed and went live in November 2013 and is receiving 'hits' from all the world, generating new interest in the society and bringing the society information about family trees that we had previously been unaware of.
The EAST family History Society hopes to be still going in another 20 years !
