DNA Testing Programme
DNA Managers Report to 2013 AGM
Thirty-six Y-DNA tests have been carried out on members of the Society since the project was launched. Eighteen of the thirty six tests have shown matches that establish links to one of six familial lines. The remaining eighteen tests have established eighteen further familial lines, each with one member. There are, therefore, twenty four familial lines identified at the moment within the project. |
An Interesting Test ResultKevin East could trace his family line back to Linconshire.
His Y-DNA test showed his nearest DNA match with 32/37 markers was with Ron East but this is not good enough to establish a clear familial link. However, what is interesting is that Kevin is also a member of the rarer haplogroup, R1a1a, along with Ron East and Chris East who can also trace their family lines back to Lincolnshire. Does this suggest that Chris, Ron and Kevin are all part of the same family but that the mutation rate of the markers is unusually high? Ron East - October 2013 |
At the AGM in 2011 it was proposed that some of the Society's funds should be used to finance DNA testing for members who the research manager identified as being of particular interest to the Society. DNA tests are now being funded from society funds as the tests are of benefit to the society as a whole. There is no obligation on persons being tested however, We would welcome donations from any member of the society, to assist in financing our DNA testing programme. |
