The Committee will occasionally decide to recognise the efforts of Society members. The Committee have decided to recognise the following members.

David Lewin
Awarded Lifetime Membership
David Lewin attended the inaugural meeting of the East Family History Society on Saturday 20th March 1993 and has been a society member ever since, undertaking numerous roles and projects on behalf of the Society. His first task was to count and document all the 'Easts' in the UK telephone directories and then to present the results to establish the geographical distribution of 'Easts' in the UK.
In Oct 1997 David was elected as Secretary of the Society and in early 1998 he also took on the role of Database & Research Manager, when one of his first projects was to compile a report on 'Easts' in Northampton. In September 1999 he compiled the Members Interest List so that the Society and its members could easily see where research was being done and allow members to find others with common research interests.
In Spring 2000 David began to extract details of 'Easts' recorded in the 18551 Census Records and the 1851 Census Index Project. In the same year David began the Certificate Index Project which documents BMD certificates held by members and the Will List Project, documenting 'East' Wills that have been found.
In the Autumn of 2003 David presented a review of the first 10 years of the Society.
In the following years he handed over the Secretarial duties and concentrated his efforts on research and data compilation. Among many projects he has undertaken are : research into the 'Easts' of Radnage & Risborough, a BMD request project and compilation of an article on the National Burial Index. During this period he also began the enormous task of Computerisation and Indexing of the Society records.
in 2006 David decided to stand down from his role as Database & Research Manager, however he then began the compilation of GRO indexes. In late 2007 the handover to his successors, of the Research and Database Files was finally complete. Since 2007 David has remained a committee member and until very recently undertook the postal distribution of the Journal to all our members.
Over the years that David has been involved, his wife has also been active. As researchers we all know the feeling of being unable to break away from something we are in the middle of, even if there are jobs we should be doing and undoubtedly Kathleen will have kept David fed and watered during his hours of research. However for many years Kathleen was also the provider of lunches and refreshments to those who attended the AGM's.
David will continue to be a co-opted member of the Committee. The Committee wish to recognise the enormous commitment David has made to the Society over the years, his efforts having been fundamental to the development of the Society. It is for this reason that David has been awarded Lifetime Membership of the Society.
